Traveling by Train in Europe is Fast and Easy!
If you've thought about traveling by trains in Europe for your next business trip or your vacation but were concerned because you've never done it before, then this might be the most exciting letter on train travel you'll ever read.
Here's why!
If you travel by plane these days, you know you have to check in early, pass through extra security, and endure flight delays even for short flights. You sit in a cramped seat, you can barely open your laptop to work, and you arrive cranky and tired. To make things worse, it takes almost as long to fly as it would to take the train!
Traveling by train in Europe is fast and easy! The European continent is compact enough and the train system is efficient enough that traveling by train makes sense.
So What's the Catch?
Why don't more people take the train? Is riding the train in Europe that much different than riding the train in North America? In my experience, there are two main reasons:
- Getting through Customs when you land in Europe can be frustrating; then you have to deal with your own fatigue after riding all night on an airplane. Many travelers mistakenly think that finding and connecting to a train instead of a plane is going to be a hassle.
- In the USA and Canada you encounter 2 or at most 3 languages as you move across these countries. In Europe, you may encounter as many as 13 languages -- more if you visit Eastern Europe! You might not have considered taking the train because you're concerned about not speaking the local language well enough to use the train.
Those challenges build up just enough resistance to keep most travelers from trying to use a train instead of a plane to get to their next destination.
Toolie, Can You Help Me?
I've got a special Travel Report that is going to relieve the anxiety you might have about trying the rail system in Europe: the Toolie Gatekey Guide to Train Travel in Europe.
Hi, I'm Toolie the Travel Guide, and my specialty is Business Travel, though lots of leisure travelers listen to me, too. I travel for a living -- that means I spend most of my time ON planes and trains!
This special 30-page report on European train travel gives you a preview of your rail travel experience, gets you organized for travel, and relieves the stress of not knowing how to prepare, so that you can enjoy the ride!
Why Would I Take the Train Instead of Flying??
Let's Add It Up!
Let's use an example one-way flight from Paris to Munich on Lufthansa Airlines.
- Taxi from Paris hotel to Charles de Gaulle Airport -- 45 minutes
(assuming no traffic -- good luck!)
- Check-in time for international flight -- 2 hours
- Flight time door to door -- 1.5 hours (assuming no flight delays)
- Waiting for baggage and finding a taxi -- 1 hour
- Taxi from FJ Strauss Airport to the center of Munich -- 45 minutes
(assuming no traffic)
Grand total for air travel: 6 hours (best case, assuming no flight delays
and no traffic on the ground!)
Fare for one-way, non-stop flight in coach: US $962
Now let's look at the same journey by train.
- Taxi from Paris hotel to "Paris Est" train station downtown -- 15 minutes
- Train from Paris Est to Munich Main station -- 8.5 hours (arrives downtown)
- Taxi to Munich hotel -- 15 minutes
Grand total for train travel: 9 hours Fare for one-way, non-stop train travel in 2nd class: US $178
Would You Spend a Few
Additional But Productive Hours
Traveling in Comfort to save 80%
on the Cost of Your Travel??
- How about having real food for a change? You get that on a train...
- And room for your laptop with a place to plug in?
- And being able to use your cell phone while you travel?
- Oh yeah, and actually seeing the countryside?
Would you do it? I would -- and I have -- many, many times. Traveling by train is truly the best way to get around Europe.
OK, I'm Game to Try It -- What Else Do I Need to Know?

- Smart, Online Booking Makes Buying Train Tickets Quick and Easy
If you can book a flight online, you can book a train journey online. The difference is that rail travel is reliable, on-time, and comfortable!
- Rail Passes Aren't Just for Backpackers -- They're a Smart Business Tool
Rail passes aren't just for leisure travelers with no particular itinerary. Business travelers can make the most of their travel by using rail passes for maximum flexibility. When was the last time you were able to change an airline ticket with ease? Rail passes guarantee that you can board the train you need to ride -- no more getting "bumped" like you do on an airplane. This guide will tell you when to try to buy a rail pass and when individual tickets will work.
- Smooth, Consistent Connections with No Guessing Games
"OK, we're boarding -- oops, we're not!" You won't be playing these travel guessing games if you take the train. Even if you're trying to catch a plane after your train ride (or vice versa), this report tells you how to plan for connection times between your plane and your train. You can be confident that you won't miss your connections.
- Baggage, Baggage, Who's Got My Baggage?
You won't have that feeling of dread as you watch your suitcase disappear inside the baggage system like you do at the airport. On a train, you can keep your bags with you! This report tells you what to bring, how much luggage you can bring, how to find your seat, what amenities you'll find, and much, much more.
- Parlez-vous Train Travel?
A smile may be the universal greeting between cultures, but after that initial contact, you're going to need to know how to find your seat on the train! Don't worry! With my helpful vocabulary chart, you'll know how to find your train, the platform, your coach, and your seat in 6 languages! Also, the photos in this guide show you how to identify the safety information, where to find the WC, and where you can get a snack.
- Stop! I Want to Get Off!!
Most trains announce the stops in multiple languages, but the 5 tips for making sure you don't miss your stop will add to your peace of mind when it's time to get off the train, make your connection, and get on your way.
- But Toolie, I've Got Work to Do
This guide includes list of my favorite resources for European travel so that whether you're a business or a leisure traveler, you can get some work done while you're away. You'll know which North American hotels also serve Europe, and what amenities you can expect at the European locations.
- No Brag, Just Facts
The international rail web site chart in this guide includes links to every site for the countries covered by Eurail passes. There you can find descriptions about the rail cars, amenities, and related services. Unlike a lot of travel reports that grow stale over time, this and every other Toolie Gatekey Report contains hyperlinks to the most current information so that it's always fresh.
- Sum It Up For Me
The rail travel checklist at the end of the report summarizes the important points in the guide so that you don't miss a step in your travel preparations. Just print it out and use it!
- Is It Really That Easy?
Yes, it is! Furthermore, I don't just tell you what you need to know about traveling by train in Europe, I tell you why! You'll be able to avoid some of the travel mistakes I've made because my humorous stories will help you "know before you go."
- I Guess First-Hand Experience Counts...
You might find general rail information scattered across the Internet, but you won't find this kind of on-site intelligence and travel-savvy insights like you do in THIS guide anywhere else.

I've made a living figuring out what bothers business travelers during their travels and coming up with unique information products that help take the stress out of business travel. Hey, my ideas work for leisure travel too!
Reason two: I have ridden European trains more than three dozen times over the past 10 years, so I will tell you the tips and tricks for safe, low-hassle travel by train. I've made all the mistakes you could imagine plus a few you probably haven't thought of, so you know you'll be getting advice from someone who's actually been to the places and done the things you're considering doing.
Reason three: I've done the legwork for you so that you don't waste time and money!
- If you're a business traveler like me, you already know that time IS money: I understand your priorities! I have done the advance work for you in this report so that you'll have time to concentrate on business and get the job done.
- If you're a leisure traveler, I understand you too! You don't want to waste your precious vacation time sitting in an airport when you could be speeding along to your destination and really getting to see the European countryside.

Sit Behind a Desk Instead of Actually Traveling!

Most travel reports are written for leisure travelers and that's fine, but if you're a business traveler, you can count on me, Toolie the Travel Guide™, to also notice all the things that are important to YOU, the business traveler.
